It was an average day for Colton, and that meant crime. It wasn't that he tried to commit crimes; they just happened as he walked along, and somehow he realized that he was in the middle of them. A magazine would end up rolled into the lining of his coat, or a candy bar would appear inside his pocket. Normally he did these things without thinking, having spent so long living in poverty that taking what he wanted now came naturally to him.
Today, however, he needed to steal on purpose. It was a monumental task, if only because he wasn't quite sure how to do it. Stealing without thinking about it was easy, but when his mind was focused on his body's every move, suddenly things were a lot more difficult. He'd walked down to the local grocery store, dressed in his usual chain-covered jacket and jeans, then perused the aisles for anything appealing. He needed to feed his siblings tonight, so a few packages of ramen would have to do. They were the only complete meal that would fit in his coat, and besides, he would only be stealing about a dollar's worth of product from the store. Stealing a careful glance around to make sure he was alone, he stepped forward, then pocketed the food.
Perfect. Time to leave and make some dinner.
