they'd done it! not that she'd doubted for a second they would loose. it wasn't really that much of a competition for the boys on their school's team. some of them were pretty big. including finley banks, who just so happened to be the co-captain and running back on the football team. why he wasn't the captain, alana didn't know, but she certainly thought he deserved it, not to mention capable. of course, she kind of liked finley, so her opinion might have been a little bias. they were pretty good friends, and flirted back and forth a lot. her being a cheerleader and him being on both the football and basketball teams, they had plenty of opportunities to see each other during the season. though alana was perhaps a little more mature then most teenagers, and didn't 'crush' very often, she was definitely experiencing one now, though she hadn't let on to anyone. not even to her best girl friends.
though alana wasn't a big partier, she did enjoy spending time with her friends, especially at these kinds of parties. everyone was celebrating, usually by getting smashed and hooking up, but the ones that didn't were fun to hang with. not that alana didn't drink at all, she just didn't like getting drunk, most of the time. to her, it really wasn't worth the hangover the next day. and she knew that by experience. the few times she'd had them, had been horrible, and something she hadn't wanted to repeat. the last time had been the worst, and she'd told herself it would never happen again. her head still gave her sympathy pains when she thought about it.
alana didn't live far from either the school or the banks residence. after finishing her job as a cheerleader, she'd left the field almost immediately to get ready for the party. rushing home, she jumped out of her car, almost forgetting to lock the doors, ran in the house and right up the stairs. after cleaning up and removing all the fancy makeup, alana redid it for an evening look, then began styling her hair. she was leaving it down, and being very efficient with a curling iron, she had it done in no time. next, what to wear? well, she had many dresses she could wear, but she'd worn most of them before. then she remembered a flashy mini-skirt and the alexander mcqueen clutch she'd bought last week. though alana wasn't one to go overboard in her spending, she'd had to splurge on that clutch. it was just too much to pass up. pairing it with a light gray tank, a black leather jacket, black six inch heels, and a few accessories, alana was ready for the party. she checked out her outfit in the full length mirror, and, satisfied with her look, dashed out her bedroom door and down the stairs. she was already late, but wasn't that fashionable? just not too late.
her parents were just coming in the door, having attended the game as well. alana's parents were very supportive of the school, and went to all the games they could manage. she appreciated that, since they really didn't have to go, and she would never have been upset with them if they didn't. giving them each a quick kiss on the cheek, alana waved and yelled goodbye as she rushed out of the house and to her car. she didn't speed there, since it wasn't necessary, and she really didn't want a ticket. reaching the party almost an hour late, she exited the car, and headed to the backyard. on her way, alana saw one or two couples making out by the side of the house where no one else was. other than a quick glance, she kept walking and ignored them. it was a common occurrence in high school, so she was use to it, of course. teenagers were just like that.
finally reaching the backyard, it seemed like everyone else was already there. alana didn't need to look far to find a face she knew. several, in fact. other athletes, cheerleaders, and friends from show choir. she may not have been considered one of the populars, and she certainly didn't see herself as one, but she definitely knew a lot of people. she was noticed right away by a group of friends, who waved and called her over. alana smiled and walked over to them. "hey girl! a little late, huh?" she laughed and took the offered cup. "i've always heard that's fashionable." after chatting with them a little more, she decided to go and sit by one of the fires. probably the smaller one, since the big one was too big. alana took a seat and crossed her legs at the knee. she held the cup with both her hands, rested on her stomach. she stared into the fire, taking sips once in a while. the music was blaring, and the only other thing she heard was people chattering. well, some yelling because of the music. alana was somehow able to tune most of it out, so it was more background noise than anything else. she'd always been good at that.
alana decided that, instead of walking around looking for friends, she'd let them come and find her. after cheering during the game, and in heels, she didn't really feel like being on her feet. at least, not for a little bit. alana leaned down and slid her heels off. it was chilly, so she held her feet out toward the fire. perfect.
